RECOGNISING THE SPIRITUAL SIGNIFICANCE OF TAKING RESPONSIBILITY OF YOUR OWN VISIBILITY
Author: Taylor Elena
I make a post on Instagram every month. In order to do so, I downloaded the app again. As a by product, I went back into old habits and watched a few reels. There was one that stood out to me in particular. It was about making a daily visibility list. At the end of each day, you write down the ways that you make yourself visible or put yourself out there.
I like this idea because it resonated with another idea that I began minimally implementing at the end of December and the beginning of January. I bought a small journal that I could take around with me which would act as my rejection therapy journal. Where I would write down my ideas for the ways I could get used to rejection, get out of my comfort zone, and put myself out there more. This visibility lists acts in a similar way.
I use a journal app called ‘DayOne’ and it offers a daily prompt. Today’s was: ‘What are you looking forward to in February?’ The implementation of this visibility list the main one. I want to show up for myself more and take accountability for my own growth.
Sometimes I have the mindset that experiences will simply be divinely aligned. While I still believe this is true, it is crucial not forget my individual role in the process. There is a memory that resurfaces regarding this topic.
First, I had a phase where I was constantly watching Mina Irfan’s (The Universe Guru) YouTube channel (2011). Something that has stuck with me today is her examination of the 99% realm concept. This concept was peroanlly first integrated as I read Reality Unveiled: The Hidden Keys of Existence That Will Transform Your Life and The World by Ziad Masri (2017). To this day, I think this is my favourite spiritual book. It is short, digestible, and caters to the scientific mind before transitioning to the more abstract and spiritual concepts. I first saw this structure of combining science and spirituality when I was introduced to occult studies by the Know Thyself Podcast. And I fell in love with it ever since.
The first chapter of Reality Unveiled is called ‘The Illusion We Call Reality’, and dives into the science of our eyes, the brain/mind, the electromagnetic spectrum, and the structure of atom. Blending theses aspects together, Masri (2017) builds up the argument the five-sense or physical reality that we see is an illusion, since we can only perceive a fraction of 1% of the universe, but the rest (99%) exists even though we cannot perceive it.
Writing this sparked a memory of mine. There was a boy in my elementary school named Hayden Dick. This particular day were were in math class. I do not remember what math was being taught that day but I do remember Hayden telling me about atoms. How they are made of entirely empty space. He put his two pointer fingers together and say:
‘My fingers look like they are touching but they are not actually’.
Or say something similar when he would touch the table, book or chair. He even told me there was a chance, an extremely small possibility, but still a possibility, that the atoms would align perfectly and his finger would go through the table. I did not believe him.
‘How you know that’, I said.
‘I read it in a book’, he responded.
I was not surprised by this. He was extremely smart and always reading advanced-level books at a young age. I remember him speaking, perhaps slightly bragging about reading Stephen King books. He would correct my spelling many times too. Despite his slight arrogant demeanor, I liked him. I found him interesting. Little did I know, that I would be interested in the same topics many years later.
Anyway, Irfan (2011) also incorporates the 1% reality and 99% reality into her work, outlining where our responsibilities lie within each. Her structure does not emphasise that one area is better than the other, but rather individuals must place 100% effort in both the spiritual and physical realm. More specially, it is crucial that an individual exhausts and overwhelms the issue in the 1% or physical realm and while having 100% or more faith in God, the Universe, or a higher power (Irfan, 2011). She uses a point-system example. To get to a goal or a desire, you have 100 actions to complete. When you complete 95, you get 95 points, but completion of the last 5 actions will give you 10,000 points. This showcases that the help from a higher power is still earned. Once it is seen that an individual has taken all the physical actions possible or within their power, then divine guidance can occur. There are shifts are made in this 99% realm, the place where the human eyes are limited, and this is where God moves behind the scenes. This may take time which is why 100% effort in the form of faith is necessary. It take both to see amazing things unfold in life.
Irfan’s (2011) final recommendation is when a desire first pops up in your mind, take action or execute within the next hour. Waiting longer allows limiting beliefs to present themselves and gives the mind the opportunity to convince yourself the effort is not worth it. When you take action quickly, you build momentum before these limiting beliefs can influence you. Ultimately compounding your efforts into creating life that you truly desire.
On a similar note, I do not remember the creator or speaker, but a similar analogy can be applied here. You are walking to your bus that will take you to an important meeting or event. You are a block away when you seeing the bus approaching the station. Are you going to only pray and hope you catch the bus while maintaining the same leisurely pace? Or are you going to pray and hope you catch the bus while running towards it? It takes 100% effort from you in the physical realm not exclusively 100% faith in the spiritual realm. It takes both.
I think this is why the daily visibility list is such a valuable practice. Instead of praying and hoping that you are just ‘going to make it one day’, that ‘the cards are always in my favour’, or ‘my God looks out for me’, it places the accountability back on the individual. You must be willing to take actions towards your desires. It will not magically happen. You have to put yourself out there, in order to be presented with opportunities you could not have even previously imagined.
And this is what I am looking forward to the most in February. Remembering these teachings and implementing my own daily visibility journal. I am curious what a habit like this could invite into my life.
